I recently heard an excellent sermon during which the preacher spoke about the qualities to be found in music. I was attending an Anglican Communion Service for which I had been commissioned to compose music for the texts of the Proper. The preacher spoke about music as a healer and this made me think carefully about my vocation as a liturgical composer. Previously I had never looked upon music in this light but what the preacher said encouraged me to review my attitude to composition.
