I intend to write about three: Palestrina, Victoria and Byrd. There are many other polyphonic composers the equal of these, Lassus, Lobo and others spring to mind, but the ones I have chosen are representative of the great tradition of sacred music - the tradition that has inspired millions through the centuries. Their music reflects a quality that is unique. It combines profound spirituality with the finest musical ability.
